Subject: Data Security, Not File Security

Keeping your information safe and secure is a never ending job these days, since technology is constantly changing. Whether it be new operating systems, patches for the holes in existing operating systems or programs, or hackers who find exploitable items within a program or operating system.

Every time you access the internet you are putting yourself at risk through the internet searches that you perform, the websites you visit, the emails you read and write, the files that you download; all of these items can be used by someone spying on your activity, to create a profile on you. This profile can reveal a lot about a person such as their internet surfing habits, their traits, their contacts, and sometimes allowing the cyber spy to get enough information to even steal your identity.

No matter what firewall you use, what antivirus software you have installed, what anti-spyware you run, you are probably one of the millions of people on this planet who are surfing the internet without any type of data security protection.   Data security protection on the internet is a must.

If you are talking to someone who is computer savvy, and you mention Data Encryption, 9 chances out of 10 they will be focusing on file encryption, because that is what the industry has cross referenced the term Data Encryption with.

What I am talking about is a means of encrypting every piece of information sent from and received by the computer you are using. This provides you with true data security.

I have found just a handful of applications that claim to provide you this level of Data Security, all but one of them, didn't live up to their claims. The one that did is called Covert Surfer.

Cover Surfer allows you to surf the internet anonymously and securely by encrypting the data that leaves your computer through the program, and decrypting it when data is received. It is truly the Global Internet Security Tool which keeps your data safe and cyber spies away from your personal information.

With cyber crime on the increase and the downturn of the global economy, why would anyone want to put themselves at risk?

Subject: Internet Privacy - Your Right to Protect Who You Are and Where You Go

In the United States we enjoy the right to do as we please as long as it does not break the law or impede upon another person's rights. In normal situations, the police cannot pull us over and look in the trunk of our car just because they feel like it, they need probable cause or a warrant. Government cannot listen in on your phone conversations without a court order. And they cannot stop you and search the contents of your shopping bag, just to see what you purchased. We enjoy protection from those invasions of privacy because it is our Constitutional right as citizens of the United States to protect our privacy.

We should be able to enjoy these same rights as we surf the Internet. The Internet is an international highway and has become a primary means of communication, education, entertainment, and commerce on an international scale. Instead of driving a car, you operate your computer. In the United States, as you surf the Internet, law abiding citizens should be able to enjoy the same freedoms from unreasonable search and seizure and go wherever they desire, look at whatever they want, and purchase items without fear of 'Big Brother' watching and recording their every move.

But now certain members of our government want to introduce the Internet Security Act, which will require any business providing Internet access, to retain all logging records for at least two years. Although the bill is designed with intent to provide law enforcement with another tool in the fight against child pornography and exploitation, the potential for abuse in its broad interpretation as well as potential implementation can have serious repercussions on your right to privacy. One of those broad interpretations includes those businesses who offer WiFi hotspot access to include Mom and Pop coffee shops etc, must comply with this bill as well. Can you imagine the amount of storage and financial burden that would place on these small businesses? Not to mention that all of your Internet activity (websites you visited and pages you looked at) will be stored for at least two years at every location you accessed the Internet and could be accessed by others besides law enforcement.

While I support law enforcement's effort in the fight against child pornography and exploitation, I am also concerned about the intrusion upon the Freedom of Speech and First Amendments rights of those who are not breaking the law. What guidelines or controls are going to be put in place, if this bill passes, that prevents information 'fishing expeditions' and abuse of access to the information collected? Who will have access to this information besides law enforcement? What about information on the personal surfing habits of a person, that if revealed, could cause personal embarrassment or professional harm? Where are the preventative measures to protect each person's rights?

Aside from law enforcement, what about other organizations such as the music industry desiring to access those records to see what music people are accessing or transferring, or the tabloid media filing a request under the 'Freedom of Information Act' to 'review' certain logs. This may sound extreme, but proper authorization for access as well as checks and balances need to be put in place to avoid violation of your privacy rights. Remember, the same people who authorized the spending of over $300 Billion, without proper guidance on how that was to be spent, are the same people pushing this bill through. If they didn't care to provide the oversight on the spending of your tax dollars, do you truly believe they have your privacy rights at heart?

There are numerous software programs that erase your cookies, Internet history and temporary Internet files, as well as provide you with anonymous web browsing. Some are better than others, but you need an all-in-one, simple-to-use application that is designed to protect your right to privacy. An application that prevents anyone from collecting personal information about you, prevents anyone from seeing what websites you're visiting and what you are buying online. An application that will allow you to determine who you want to identify yourself to, what personal information you want to provide to them, and when you want to provide it. The key point is that it allows you to make this choice. It allows you to maintain control of your personal information. It allows you to maintain your right to privacy. Now, more than ever, is the time for you to protect yourself with Internet Privacy software.

Subject: Your Internet Activity Has Never Been Private and Never Will Be Unless YOU Take Action!

There is a large percentage of consumers who are under the misconception that anything they do on the Internet, from shopping to reading their email, is protected, and that they have a right to privacy. And despite all the advertising and marketing by Internet security companies, an even larger percentage are still unaware of the risks they take when they access the Internet through wireless cafés, coffee shops or even using their wireless connection at home. The consumer faces a multitude of threats, but they are most vulnerable to their lack of understanding of what these threats are, how much harm can be done, and what they can do to protect themselves.

Of course, the term 'threat' is relative to the individual and we must take a global view, as the Internet is truly a global community. A threat can be interpreted as something as simple as a marketer knowing what type of videos you enjoy watching, to the extreme of the persecution, incarceration or death of a political activist in response to a blog they posted. Others think of a threat as a hacker, breaking into their computer or tapping into their wireless connection and stealing their identity.

Threat means different things to different people. But, no matter what the threat is, it is real and you need to be protected. But don't rely on the government or Internet Service Provider to protect your interests. They have interests of their own, and your right to privacy is not on their list. One is focused on selling your Internet surfing habits and other personal information to marketers, the other is focused on keeping tabs on other things, especially oppressive countries such as China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia.

On an international scale, the responsibility to protect their right to privacy rests upon the consumer themselves. Legislation across the globe is constantly being levied to access consumer Internet activity. Hackers are forever taking advantage of vulnerabilities and preying upon the unprotected. So, do yourself a favor and practice safe Internet browsing. Use protection before you surf. Encrypt your connection whether at home, at the office, or while you travel. Clean up after you browse, by deleting your cookies, temporary files and Internet history, encrypt important data and destroy data you no longer need. Awareness and action is the key. Educate yourself on the threats and take action by subscribing to an application that does all of this for you. Keep it simple, and make it easy for yourself.

Covert Surfer is an easy to use, affordable and very effective Internet Privacy and Security program that encrypts your Internet connection, no matter where you are, and prevents your neighbor, the Internet Service Provider and even the government from identifying who you are and watching your internet activity. Using industry approved, state of the art encryption, Covert Surfer protects you from identity theft as well as your right to privacy. Covert Surfer is another great tool in the fight for Internet Identity Protection. Covert Surfer can be downloaded directly onto your computer or onto a USB Flash Drive, making it portable and a perfect travel companion.
